Greetings all. During the past few weeks, we have received several different requests for volunteers. We are still seeking information on some of them, but I wanted to put these before you as you begin to look at schedules for the next six months.
Urgent: North Africa
There is an urgent request from the IMB for members from several different specialties. There is a call for a Dentist, an OB/GYN provider, and a Field Vision Team. The dates of the trip are June 1-15, 2024. Applications must be submitted by April 1, 2024, to get approvals for the team to come. The location is North Africa. Kentucky
A member passed this request on to us. Camp Courageous Kids is a camp in Southern Kentucky for special needs kids from around the world. At The Center for Courageous Kids, medical volunteers are essential to the summer camp sessions. In addition to our Medical Team (Medical Director and Camp Nurses), we recruit licensed medical volunteers and nursing student volunteers for each summer camp session. Medical volunteers must attend orientation (one day before the camp session) and stay for the entire camp week. Housing is provided for all volunteers. Medical Volunteers include nurses, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, medical students in their third and fourth year, nursing students, and pharmacy students. Kenya
Mike Reed, a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Lake Charles, LA is helping his church put together a team for a Healthcare Team to travel to Kenya. They have needs in the areas of Medical/Dental/Veterinary. A pharmacist is definitely needed as well as other providers and a Dental Hygienist. Trip dates are May 30 – June 9. The estimated cost is $4300 from Houston, TX. Please contact Mike for further information.
Guatemala
Bil Barkley, BMDF member and Missions Pastor at FBC Mt. Pleasant, TX is taking a team to Guatemala from June 14-22. While he is asking for Physicians, Nurses, Translators, Surgeons, Pharmacists, Lab Techs, Sonographers, Dentists, and Dental Hygienists, he is in urgent need of Anesthesiologists, or CRNAs. Brazil
Mike Grober from Your Mission Matters is taking a team to Brazil for a Medical outreach along the Amazon River. The dates are June 18 – 25th. They currently have five on their team but are still looking for physicians, dentists, nurses, Physical therapists, and others willing to serve. Mike puts the cost of the trip, including airfare at around $3000. Mike shared about trips to Brazil and Peru at our Annual meeting. For more information, please contact Mike Grober.
Peru and Brazil
We are also working with Mike Grober at Your Mission Matters about possible trips to either Peru or Brazil in the early fall. More information to follow. We are looking at September 20-28 (Peru) or October 18-27 (Brazil or Peru). If this trip interests you, please let Bob or Mike know. Again, this trip would be open to all healthcare fields.
