It’s Mission Trip Time
Welcome back, summer. Not only is the weather hot, but so are the mission trips that are ongoing. I recently returned from my church’s mission trip to Ecuador, and on my return flight to Memphis, met up with three volunteers who were returning from the biennial mission trip with the Paraguay Baptist Medical Center Foundation.
Have you gone on a mission trip this year? I like to keep up with who is going where, so, If you went on a medical mission trip this year, can you please send me an email and let me know where you went, how you saw God work, and if you had other BMDF members with you. I look forward to hearing back from you on this.
A message from our New President
On April 26, 2025, Dr. John Witt became the new president of BMDF. Dr. Witt will serve for the next two years as our president.
Dr. Witt is a neurologist practicing with HCA Healthcare in Nashville, where he has been the director of neurosciences and stroke for TriStar Skyline Medical Center. He currently serves as Program Director for the TriStar Neurology Residency and holds faculty appointments with the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center and the Thomas F. Frist Jr. College of Medicine at Belmont University. John has a master’s degree in theological studies from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and teaches theology, ethics, and leadership at the Long Hollow School of Ministry. He is a veteran participant and leader of numerous short-term medical mission teams and is passionate about BMDF’s support of student mission volunteers and career missionary education. As parents of three grown children and grandparents of two, John and his wife Mary live in the Nashville area and attend Long Hollow Church.
Please note the following words from our new President.
BMDF is more than a fellowship of Christian healthcare professionals. We serve as a catalyst to organize, inspire, and equip mission-minded healers for service to Christ. Peter and the twelve were the first followers of Christ called specifically to preach and to heal (Matthew 10). Following Peter’s lead, we are calling on today’s healthcare professionals to steward their own gifts and talents for God’s glory (1 Peter 4:10-11). If you long to see the Kingdom of God impacted through compassionate clinical care, skilled medical teaching, and faithful dissemination of the gospel, I encourage you to join and participate in the work of BMDF. Your financial support, prayers, and volunteer service will mobilize healthcare students and professionals for sharing the love of Christ around the world. Don’t miss this opportunity!
John C. Witt, MD, MTS, FAHA
Calling all members (and non-members)
Reviewing our records for the past year, I’ve noticed our membership is declining. This is especially true among our student members and those serving overseas. Have you renewed your membership in the past twelve months? If you’re not sure, please email me and I can let you know. If it somehow slipped by, please renew. We need you walking alongside us as we seek to serve our Lord. You can renew your membership by clicking here. Also, please take the time to invite others to join our Fellowship.
As summer heats up, please be careful and safe in these extremely high temperatures, both at home and as you travel abroad. However, if you’re heading to South America, take a jacket. It was 59 degrees as the high when I was there two weeks ago.
Bob Thomas
Executive Director, BMDF
